THE “ROCK AND ROLL LAWYER”® SHOW with host SHELDON KAY ©
|
The Rock And Roll Lawyer Show with host Sheldon Kay, a guitar player and entertainment lawyer, is the only place where Lady Liberty can let her hair down and listen to the best of the golden age of rock & roll, doo wop, and rockabilly. We pride ourselves on our three elements: music, law, and comedy - all glued together by the great music that we play each week. Music Our music is unique to other radio stations. We play 50’s and 60's music that’s rarely heard, right down to our theme song “Jam Up” by Tommy Ridgely. Think of yourself listening at night to your radio... hearing music you’ve never heard. We call it the “chill factor.” That’s the philosophy behind the music. Sheldon and his producer Kelly go through hundreds of tunes each week just to find the gems. Sure, we play your favorites from the early 50's to the mid 60's, but we pride ourselves on the rare music that is part of the Rock & Roll Lawyer Show (RRLS) playlist. Some of the most famous entertainers in doo wop, rockabilly and early rock & roll have been on our show including: | The Coasters Johnny Cash's Tennessee 3 Brenda Lee Dick Dale Wanda Jackson Brent Mason Buddy Holly's Crickets The “original” Peggy Sue The Tokens - Jay Siegel | Reverend Horton Heat The Del-Vikings Ronnie Hawkins Sun Records Pro. Jack Clement Sun Artist Sonny Burgess Unknown Hinson The Marcels Jack Scott The Rev. Jimmy Snow and Bo Diddley* | The Rock And Roll Lawyer Show supports artists and events in the Metro Detroit area. Sheldon gives back to the community by teaching entertainment law seminars. His next seminar is scheduled for November 2008. Still want more? Check out these features: - History Lesson – An in-depth analysis of a historical rock and roll tune and several artists’ interpretations.
- Cousin Frank’s Funny Favorites – A comical tune each week as a tribute to the memory of Cousin Frank, a original cast member.
- SPAG's Pick of the Week – DJ SPAG showcases newer material.
- Public Service Announcements (PSAs) - Hide your kids when we play these.
The Law You ask, “Is Sheldon a real lawyer?” Here’s his bar number to prove it: P27225. It’s probably the only time on his show that he’s serious and uses his intellect, although sometimes funny legal topics are talked about. National and local legal topics of interest are discussed on the show with guests at the forefront of the issues, such as: - Norman Yatooma - Attorney for Jonathan Bond, son of Tamara Green
- Ken Wyniemko - A wrongfully convicted man exonerated by The Innocence Project
- Bill Goodman - Attorney for Detroit City Council
- B.J. Bernstein - Gernarlow Wilson Case
- The “Schlong” Puppet show- 1st Amendment Rights
AND... stay tuned for our Willie Gingrich Award, named after the shyster lawyer in the movie The Fortune Cookie. We give our award to attorneys and judges who could have conducted themselves more ethically and we’re not afraid to give it out - so long as we “feel” it’s right. Comedy We should take the Fifth on this one but we will admit that we have seen people laugh at our material. One of our proudest moments was when we unveiled “Kwame River,” a parody about the former mayor of Detroit to the tune of the old standard “Swanee River.” From the host who is totally off the wall, especially when taking “Dr. Tussin,” to the rest of the crew, nobody is safe from being the butt of a joke. You’ll never know what will happen next... Music and comedy go together like a peanut butter and banana sandwich, but law and comedy? The creative minds at The Rock And Roll Lawyer Show are not satisfied with just reading silly laws over the airwaves. In the near future, the show plans to have these special events: -
- The First Annual Rock & Roll Lawyer Show Prison Beauty Contest “Hotties in the Slammer” - Hey, even cute girls sometimes get caught. Our “Miss O” would win if she was in prison.
- The return of Rock & Roll Court - Two songs go to court and their “attorneys” argue their “client” is the better song.
- Prison Food Cook-off – We taste the best and the worst of prison food. Don’t bite down on that file baked in the cake.
Lastly, Podcasts of our shows can be downloaded from our website at www.rockandrolllawyer.com. If you have any questions contact Lisa Mazur at our office number. THE “ROCK AND ROLL LAWYER”® SHOW CREW We are a self-contained unit. We have our own producer, Kelly Joseph, and production facilities, our own talent (including writers), and experienced personnel who handle booking- and of course- legal inquiries. Everything that is done for the show complies with our Standards and Practices, a collection supervised by Sheldon made by his law clerks (he’s too lazy to do it himself) of documents relating to media and copyright issues, including the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998. We have successfully dealt with individuals infringing on our trademark “Rock & Roll Lawyer” and are up on new case law and legislation regarding fair use and parody. We keep current with all the laws we break. With our on-site engineer, the Rock & Roll Lawyer Show offers live remotes. - SHELDON KAY - Rock & Roll Lawyer®/Host, half F. Lee Bailey, half Eddie Haskell, all Rock & Roll. He’s as slick as his hair. He never leaves the house without his “Sweet Georgia Brown” pomade and a guitar pick.
